Self-Massage for Athletes
It has been found that highly trained athletes benefit greatly from the use of the deeply penetrating massage ball under the Yamunatm Body Rolling (BR) system. When a person experiences pain or discomfort due to sprain, muscle spasm or nerve impingement, there is a compression or restriction in a specific area of the body. In general, tightness, inflammation or nerve pain are accompanied by a lack of space. This will first manifest itself as muscle tightness. If the problem is not corrected, it moves to the next level: the muscle becomes so tight that it is easily pulled, or impinges on a nerve, as in sciatica. The key to prevention, and the first step in healing, is to maintain or restore the length of the involved muscles and the space within the joints. No matter how fit and well trained the athlete, by its very nature training overexerts and tightens muscles. Stretches are useful and important component of any training regime, but the deep tissues and related joints are minimally affected.
