YOGA STYLES
PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Please check back periodically to see the
updates.
Our
Yoga Studio can accommodate up to 20 students per class. All classes are
drop~in and "first come first serve". We keep the room temperature at
around 80-85 degrees, unlike other styles of yoga done in a heated room at
100-108 degrees. The body heat you build in a yoga practice comes from
your own effort and will warm you up to where you need to be for your own
health, safety and deeper flexibility. Challenge may vary depending on the
teacher. Always remember to listen carefully to and honor your own body by
going at your own pace. Yoga is "non-competitive"!
Described below are the various "styles" of
HATHA YOGA we offer. Each teacher at
the House Of Yoga brings to you his or her own unique experience with an
emphasis on one or more classic styles.

NANCY'S
Teaching Style:
Having a safe,
tranquil, and nurturing space for you to study yoga is a high priority in my
teaching. Following close behind is having fun and learning not to take
ourselves too seriously. The core message in every class is “listen to &
trust your inner voice of wisdom… both on and off the mat”.
My continuously
evolving style of teaching comes from an intermingling of influences… Many of
my teachers have been from the
Iyengar Tradition, as well as
Anusara, and
Structural Yoga Therapy. Blending
principles of alignment from the Iyengar and Anusara teachings; adapting
each practice to the individual from a
therapeutic perspective; and my 20+ years of being a registered nurse & health educator make
my teaching style what it is today.
As a nurse, by nature, I am a nurturer.
I will watch over you carefully to ensure your safety. I will entice you with
new challenges. And in the end you will find yourself in new places with new
abilities; all the while having great fun, being protected and feeling loved.
In my class you will develop
strength and focus and always leave feeling like you have done something
magical for yourself.
I will share with you my philosophies on living our yoga. I will encourage
you to use your yoga mat as a life laboratory to test and challenge yourself
in ways that are destined to make your life richer. Learning to take our yoga
off the mat is what matters most in our daily practice. Joy, peace-of-mind
and excellent health are three things I believe we all have a birthright to.
My classes are all about remembering this wisdom.

MARCIA'S Teaching
Style: Marcia is
a Hatha Yoga/Iyengar influenced yoga instructor who has been formally practicing
yoga for 8 years along with 30+ combined years of experience in dance, Zen
meditation, massage therapy and structurally-oriented therapeutic bodywork. From
these practices she has a keen awareness and knowledge of alignment and body
mechanics. Her easy-to-follow instructions assist and encourage all levels of
students to "be present" from the inside out in their yoga practice. Marcia's
love and study of movement compliments her teaching and contributes greatly to
the learning environment and, ultimately, to the joy she finds in “being” in
life and yoga.

CHERI'S Teaching Style:
I teach a Hatha/Iyengar style of yoga with a focus on breath, alignment, core
strength and support. My classes are slow and meditative. While I
work with people on alignment, breath and strength, I also teach them how being
truly present can bring about huge transformation-internally and externally. I
like calling the yoga I teach and practice, bliss yoga. I have found that
when we slow down in our yoga practice it gives us the ability to uncover deeper
parts of ourselves. Often times people discover an internal bliss which
can be overlooked in this fast paced world. When we hook into this bliss,
a profound peace, joy and grace are available. Yoga, for me, is much more than a
physical practice…it is an energetic practice and a life practice.
However, I usually try not to take myself too seriously, so having fun and
playing is a big part of how I life my life and how I teach yoga!

ROBLEE'S Teaching Style:
Roblee Irvine, Substitute Yoga Teacher:
Yoga has
been a part of my life since 2000, and I have learned by doing, mostly at House
of Yoga. I enjoy the focus, strength, balance, and flexibility, mentally and
physically, that I've learned through the practice of yoga. That is what I try
to teach.
I teach at the studio on a substitute basis, and I try to emulate the kind of
practice done in the class for which I'm subbing.
